What a bargain grandchildren are! I give them my loose change, and they give me a million dollars' worth of pleasure. ~Gene Perret

My oldest granddaughter left me a message letting me know an essay I wrote recently, inspired her.  She wanted me to stop by to read and critique her writing of the day. I like it just as it is, unedited. She is a hauntingly insightful little girl who loves to read and has recently discovered her own writing voice. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  This is her story, unedited, just as she gave it to me. English rules and grammar arrive along with further eduction.  Insightfulness, creativity, and sagacity- well, we just might be born with those.

What a lesson she taught me.  I have humbly learned, when we follow our passion, it isn't about the money we earn, or the accolades we receive. What matters is, do we touch others or help to change lives?  This angel continues to influence my life.

Abandoned Buildings
By Alexandria Eckert- age 11
Have you ever seen old abandoned buildings?  They can relate to life.  When you lose a best friend, family member, or a pet you may feel like not wanting to go on and just sit in your house and cry. Kind of like an old abandoned building.  When they are not used anymore they just sit there and basically rot.  They are always called the crap places in town and only noticed when they are called ugly but finally they are torn down never to be seen again or rebuilt.  Did you know that Brownella Cottage probably was abandoned for many years and look at it now. Its a historical part of town.  That just shows that if you give a abandonded building care and love and respect it can be beautiful.  So when you don’t want to go on remember don’t just sit there and rot. Rebuild your life and go on.  My grandmother has been through a lot but always seems to rebuild her life.  She lost her husband right before I was born and I was her angel sent to get her back on her feet.  So never give up on yourself.
